Virginia is for (Book) Lovers feat. Burn The Page and Razorblade Tears

September 3, 2022      5 Comments

I inadvertently read two local-to-me authors last month a while ago. I didn’t plan to review these books together but I found that one informed how I thought about the other. Both explore what it means to exist outside of the cis-heteronormative identity in the South.

The Only Black Girls in Town by Brandy Colbert

May 27, 2022      6 Comments

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Part mystery, part coming-of-age narrative this is a captivating story of friendship, found family, and what it means to belong.

There have been quite a few new developments in 12-year-old Alberta Freeman-Price’s life. Van Ness takes readers along on their often messy and deeply complicated journey to becoming the on-screen persona adored by millions of fans.

Needless to say, this is a heavy read.

The Bad Muslim Discount is a carefully observed coming-of-age story of two young Muslims–Anvar, a sarcastic Pakistani immigrant in San Francisco, and Safwa, a young Iraqi woman burdened with endless tragedy in a country torn apart by war.

Kat’s Black Friday Readathon TBR

November 21, 2021      2 Comments

I hope you’re joining us this Friday for a day of reading, bookish chatting and challenges. Sign-ups are still open here!

I tried to make a feasible TBR that I can hopefully get through in one day. After I took this picture I realized I didn’t have an audiobook on here so I’ll have to scope one out to add in.
