October 2, 2011      12 Comments

BAS is taking part in the In My Mailbox meme started by The Story Siren. Each week bloggers post books that have arrived in their mailbox, picked up from the bookstore or purchased. Here are some books I’m getting ready to read.

Today’s post is brought to me by the library. This is the first time I’ve gotten a haul from a library in years. I can pick out as many as I want without worrying about buying something I don’t like.

Princess Bookie’s Cover Re-Design Contest : Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

September 28, 2011      2 Comments

A few days ago we made a post gently mocking the cover of Jennifer L Armentrout’s Obsidian. When I saw Princess Bookie’s Recreate a Cover Contest I decided to try my own hand at re-imagining this cover. I am not the best with photoshop, but I tried.

For my image I used a picture from the UK Glamour photoshoot of Nikki Reed and Kellan Lutz. The building in the background is Olgebay Hall at West Virginia University, I got the image via Bawwomick.

Paranormal romance isn’t always my speed, but I have blogged about this book so much I am probably going to go out and get it.

I’m making my way through The Mortal Instruments series. This is the third in the six book series.

Into The Woods By Tana French

I passed by this book so many times in the college bookstore. I don’t know much about it but have heard that it is a Mystery/Thriller.

“What you do, the way you think, makes you beautiful.”

– Scott Westerfeld Uglies

Synopsis:  Tally is about to turn sixteen, and she can’t wait. Not for her license — for turning pretty. In Tally’s world, your sixteenth birthday brings an operation that turns you from a repellent ugly into a stunningly attractive pretty and catapults you into a high-tech paradise where your only job is to have a really great time. In just a few weeks Tally will be there. . . But Tally’s new friend Shay isn’t sure she wants to be pretty. . . When Shay runs away, Tally learns about a whole new side of the pretty world — and it isn’t very pretty.

Scott Westerfeld’s  Uglies is the first in a series of novels that asks the question; What is the cost of beauty? This dystopian novel takes place in a world were everyone is made to believe they are “ugly” until their sixteenth birthday, when the are tuned pretty via extensive plastic surgery.

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

Release Date : January 10, 2012

I have recently become a fan of John Green after reading several of his books and I am so excited forThe Fault in Our Stars  to come out. The novel is somewhat inspired by Esther Earl–an amazing fan of his who died at age 16 of thyroid cancer.

Green is hand signing all of the first printing and I already pre-ordered mine off Amazon and I can’t wait ! I’m anxious to know what the cover art will look like. Until then, I will have to look at this Tumblr of fan made covers.
