Book Review : Want To Go Private ? by Sarah Darer Littman

November 10, 2011      Leave a Comment

“I can be anyone I want to be when I’m online and I don’t even have to wear makeup.”

– Sarah Darer Littman, Want To Go Private ?

Synopsis:  Abby knows she’s not supposed to chat with random guys online. But Luke isn’t random, and he isn’t a stranger. Best of all, he really loves her. So what if she never goes out with her friends anymore and her grades are slipping? All she needs is Luke. Luke is her secret, and she’s his — it’s perfect that way. So when Luke suggests that they meet each other in person, Abby agrees. And then she’s gone. Missing. Without a trace. And everyone is left to put together the pieces. If they don’t, they’ll never see Abby again…

No amount of  Law and Order:  SVU could have prepared me for how deeply disturbing this novel was for me at times. What starts off as a cute scene of best friends arguing over whether Aragon or Legalos is cuter quickly turns into something much darker and more emotional.

Book Review : City of Glass by Cassandra Clare

November 4, 2011      1 Comment

“Not everything is about you,” Clary said furiously. “Possibly,” Jace said, “but you do have to admit that the majority of things are.”

― Cassandra Clare, City of Glass

<– Side note: Did anyone else think that was Alec on the front cover at first glance?

Okay, I’m going to review this one real quick for you. In City of Glass; Jace broods, Clary acts reckless, Simon is dragged around, and Magnus sparkles. Stuff happens, twist, and turns to a resounding mediocre end. This book was less City of Glass and more like City of Glass plunged into my eyes. 3 stars.

Book Review : Devilish by Maureen Johsnon

November 1, 2011      3 Comments

Synopsis : The only thing that makes St. Teresa’s Preparatory School for Girls bearable for Jane is her best friend Ally. But when Ally changes into a whole different person literally overnight the fall of their senior year, Jane’s suddenly alone—and very confused.

Turns out, Ally has sold her soul in exchange for popularity—to a devil masquerading as a sophomore at St. Teresa’s! Now it’s up to Jane to put it all on the line to save her friend from this ponytail-wearing, cupcakenibbling demon . . . without losing her own soul in the process. . .

I became a fan of Maureen Johnson ever since she made this video to teen writers asking her how to get published.

Book Review : Dearly Departed

October 29, 2011      3 Comments

“Vampires are just zombies with good PR”

                    – Dearly, Departed

Synopsis :  Nora Dearly is far more interested in military history and her country’s political unrest than in tea parties and debutante balls. But after her beloved parents die, Nora is left at the mercy of her domineering aunt, a social-climbing spendthrift who has squandered the family fortune and now plans to marry her niece off for money. For Nora, no fate could be more horrible—until she’s nearly kidnapped by an army of walking corpses. . . Catapulted from her world of drawing-room civility, she’s suddenly gunning down ravenous zombies alongside mysterious black-clad commandos and confronting “The Laz,” a fatal virus that raises the dead—and hell along with them.

Book Review : The Next Door Boys

October 28, 2011      4 Comments

“When you’re no longer afraid of death, there are a lot of things you’re not afraid of anymore”

– Jolene B. Perry, The Next Door Boys

I received  Jolene B. Perry’s Next Door Boys from NetGalley. I choose it  because the name jumped out at me and the cover art reminded me of a Sarah Dessen novel. Within a few minutes of reading the book, I realized this is a LDS novel. Something I didn’t quite expect

Book Review: Fallen by Lauren Kate

October 22, 2011      4 Comments

“What if the person you were meant to be with could never be yours?”

― Lauren Kate, Fallen

Synopsis: Mysterious and aloof, he captures Luce Price’s attention from the moment she sees him on her first day at the Sword & Cross boarding school in sultry Savannah, Georgia. He’s the one bright spot in a place where cell phones are forbidden, the other students are all screw-ups, and security cameras watch every move. Even though Daniel wants nothing to do with Luce–and goes out of his way to make that very clear–she can’t let it go (really ?). Drawn to him like a moth to a flame, she has to find out what Daniel is so desperate to keep secret . . . even if it kills her. (P.S This synopsis does not at all describe the book)

Like a lot of people on this week’s  TopTen Tuesday I picked up Fallen because of the cover. It’s dark, mysterious, and full of melancholy. It has a girl in a pretty dress, I mean it just screams dark paranormal romance.
