When Jess and I were at BEA, one of the books we heard about from Sourcebooks was Broken by CJ Lyons and it sounded amazing. When Sourcebooks asked us if we wanted to interview CJ, we jumped at the chance !
Broken tells the story of 15-year-old Scarlet Killian, who lives with a rare heart condition that could cause her to die of a broken heart at any moment. Scarlet decides its time to try something she has never done before; go to high school….
A few weeks ago, Jess and I made a last minute day (well, evening really) trip down to Virginia Beach to see Maggie Steifvater on The Dream Thieves tour.
I’d never been to the Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library
library, where the event was held, but I was very impressed. The library had a nice auditorium for the event and even decorated the library with balloons and ravens for the visit.
We were a little late and a crowd of about 50 people were already in the auditorium. It’s obvious Stiefvater has a pretty diverse fanbase. There were readers of all different ages and even a few male fans–which can be kind of rare at YA events….
I was all set to spend the weekend reading through my giant TBR Book Pile of Shame when Kat told me about a conversation on Twitter between It’s A Hardcover Life and Reading Teen about a signing with Kami Garcia in Bethesda, Maryland.
I was so excited ! Reading Beautiful Creatures is what got me back into reading YA and what eventually led to starting this blog.

I love the details on the cake. |
Last weekend, Kat and I headed to the Northern Virginia bookstore,One More Page Books, for the release party of Skylark by Meagan Spooner. We’ve been excited for this book since BEA, so we just had to go to the release.
The party was packed with friends and family of Meagan along with readers, booksellers and of course bloggers.
Meagan made a wonderful speech to start off the night. You can tell she has great friends and family supporting her. During the signing she took her time talking with each person and writing a personal message in each book.
Meagan has such a great energy about her and towards the end of the night she took the time to talk us about her journey to publication and her writing process.
We got to see the UK cover of Skylark and learned that the genre of the novel is less Dystopian and more Magical Steampunk. Doesn’t that sound like an awesome genre ?

Children’s Author Breakfast
Jess and I left our hotel extra early to arrive at the Children’s Author Breakfast. At first we had a hard time finding a table that wasn’t reserved by a publishing house. It was starting to feel hopeless when we found a table of YA bloggers including Kristi from The Story Siren, Cat from Beyond Books, April from Good Books and Good Wine, Anna from Anna Reads, Tara fromFiction Folio ,Tara from Hobbitsiesand one or two other bloggers I know I’m forgetting. We were sitting closest to April and I just have to say she is so kind and great–it was awesome meeting her….
