If These Books Were Judged By Their Covers Vol.3 : When Cover Art Looks Familiar

They say don't judge a book by it's cover, but who does what they are told ? Sometimes you have to wonder what goes on in publishing house art departments. This week we are seeing double !

Spencer Hill Press

Dark Territory
Health Communications Inc.

I know authors don't have control over the cover art of their books, but I do wonder how they feel  that two novels can end up with the same stock image of this couple. Also, it's my new goal in life to find the original image.

Beautiful Creatures
Little Brown, Books

Not exactly the same, but this text that has a mind of it's own !

Anna Dressed In Blood
Doherty, Tom Associates, LLC

Blood Rights
Hachette Book Group

Stylized black and white with a bright red accent, just screams horror. Fun  fact: when I Google Image searched Blood Rights the Anna Dressed In Blood cover came up.

Name Of The Star
Putman Juvenile

Life Is But A Dream
Feiwel & Friends

Do I spot a similar stock photo ? The dress certainly does look similar. Maybe they are from the same photoshoot ?  I've noticed a trend of cover models lying on the floor, are all these heroines that helpless ? Do I even have to mention the faded in creeper in the Name The Star cover ?

Do these covers look similar to you ? Do you have any favorites ?

  1. I'm glad I'm not the only one noticing similar covers when I'm browsing at the book store! I really like your posts :)

  2. I often see similar covers, but not necessarily the exact same stock photo like with Obsidian and Dark Territory! Oh no! That would make me sad if I was either author.

    I’m a new follower :)

  3. I've noticed this a lot too! The covers for Obsidian and Dark Territory are alarmingly the same. I noticed another example where the models on the covers for Enchanted by Alethea Kontis and Dreaming Awake by Gwen Hayes are both wearing the same dress. It really makes you wonder.

  4. Great catches! Especially Obsidian and Dark Territory.
You asked about manga...have you watched the Fruits Basket anime yet? I love that manga. I think it's good for a first series. I believe Vampire Knight is also an anime series.

  5. @Alison Can Read - Yeah, I saw Fruits Basket even though I hear the manga is waaay better.

I may see if I can get Vampire Knight. I like the concept. I'll let you know !
