A #NewBookTrend ?

While reading through the 2014 publisher catalogs (book nerd problems)  I noticed something interesting about two 2014 novels.
Sourcebooks Fire
Simon Pulse

Both #scandal by Sarah Ockler  and #16thingsithoughtweretrue by Janet Gurtler use the Twitter hashtag style in their titles. Of course both of these books have stories that  center around social media,  but I think the choice to use the Twitter hashtag style is interesting.

Now hastag  titles (outside of Twitter) isn't new, musicians have done it quite a few times, for example and Justin Beiber's song #thatpower. This is mostly  done  to make the songs trend on Twitter and I wonder if these  #hashtag  books titles are trying to generate some of the same buzz ?

What do you think of  the use of  #titles ? Do you think we will see more in non-social media themed books?

  1. I think it would be better if they just posted a #NAME on the other side of the book. You know, on top/bottom of the blurb :) It's too prominent for my taste in the cover, but I think it would be a great way to interact more about a book with people who read it at the same time :)

  2. First of all I love that #hashtag skit. SO funny!! I hadn’t thought about the book titles trending on twitter since they are hashtags. That’s kind of a cool idea. I think it would only work if social media is a part of the story. I also like when book titles try to do something new. I hope it doesn’t get overdone though because like the skit shows, hashtags are kind of silly if you use them too much :)

  3. I've noticed this trend too! To be honest, I think it's pretty cool - the titles stands out from all the other books out there and it will make a great hashtag for Twitter. ;D
